Saltwater Fly Fishing: The Science of Success

  • Living Waters Fly Fishing 103 North Brown Street Round Rock, TX, 78664 United States (map)

We are excited to offer this master-class level clinic that specifically focuses on demystifying the extreme challenge of saltwater fly fishing. This session offers a breadth of information, empowering everyone from beginners to seasoned anglers. Taught by Austin native and globe-trotting angler Keith Groves, this clinic packs in knowledge gained from thousands of hours of saltwater fishing across the globe.

Keith is an Austin native who has caught fish from around the world, traveling to over 50 countries. With a lifelong passion for angling, Keith grew up fishing the Hill Country, then got hooked on fly fishing while spending time in Colorado. He spends time in the Caribbean every year chasing bonefish, permit, and tarpon, and runs his own skiff targeting redfish on the Texas coast.

This class will move well beyond the basics and analyze the critical factors driving fish behavior and angling tactics, including:

  • Hydrodynamics & Tides: How to read water movement and predict feeding windows.

  • Aerodynamics: Casting techniques that help anglers deal with coastal winds.

  • Marine Biology & Ecology: Selecting gear and flies based on prey species and targeted fish behavior.

  • Texas Fishery Dynamics: Applying these scientific principles directly to Texas coastal waters.

Whether you're planning a DIY trip or maximizing a guided expedition, this session delivers the strategies, science, and technical skills needed to elevate your game.
